Anna is LIVE!

A short story that was inspired by a song.

“The Police Department in Harding Township, New Jersey, is asking for help identifying a woman who fled the scene of an accident last night, leaving the driver in critical condition. Please contact the number on your screen with any information that will help identify the woman in the jean jacket. Notice the retro American flag on the back of the jacket and the words Uncle Sam Wants You.” The news reporter stood next to an area of the street where police tape marked the accident scene. Passersby and other onlookers drove in and out of the camera’s view as they headed to their destinations.

Anna is a fast-paced short story that you can read while waiting in line, at lunch, or anywhere in between.

This is part one in a short story series about a young woman who started a summer job for extra cash and ended up running for her life.

I’m currently writing Anna 2. The stakes are higher, and her escape routes are shrinking.

pssst 😉 do me a favor: visit my IG, find Anna’s post where Billy says, “The internet is going bananas,” and comment with the date and time you finished the story. I’d love to hear from you.

Best Day EVER!

On September 15th 2026, I read and understood my first 6 sentences in Japanese. They were written in Hiragana💯 and I only made one mistake. I read the characterり(ri) as れ (re). I’m not mad at all – I’m happy I understood all 6 lines of Hiragana without referring to my notes or my kana chart 🎉🥳 (^..^)

My notebook, Kana chart, Hiragana practice book, and Genkouyoushi practice book I use while learning

This is not an easy language for English speakers to learn because, as you can see from the photo, the Japanese language is completely different from ours.

A starting point was the hardest part for me

Hello, Learners! When I started learning my first foreign language, I was confident, and my goal was to be fluent in a year. I purchased How-To books and began working through them, happily bouncing from book to book. But after a few months, I was afraid to speak the language. My pronunciation was horrible, and my comprehension was worse, all because I was learning in a disjointed way. I struggled. Later, I realized there were several things I should have thought through before beginning. So, today let’s look at my journey to learning Spanish to hopefully help you avoid one of those mistakes.

Before we go deeper into the whys and how’s, let me explain something, I knew I wanted to learn Spanish, but I couldn’t afford to take a class, so I took the path of self-learning. If you can afford to take courses and want to go that route, this post is not for you. But if you’re considering self-learning, stay with me to learn how I got started on the right path to learning Spanish. Please note that this works with any new language including Japanese.

After five long months of floundering with book study, YouTube, and two months with a tutor, I lost my motivation and eventually stopped learning. I used the time for reflection, aka I wasn’t giving up so easily. I wasn’t fully aware of the implications of what I was learning until I looked at English from the viewpoint of someone new to English. I’ve learned that just like with English, there are differences in the spoken and written language, a difference when talking to an employer or co-workers, family or friends. We even use different words when communicating with strangers. The differences may seem minor to some, but they do exist. Once I took another look at the Spanish language, I was ready to get started because I finally knew what I wanted to learn.

I downloaded an app and began to struggle again. Then, one day, I found my answer while scrolling through social media. I needed to master the alphabet first. Once I began learning the alphabet, focusing on how to pronounce each letter, my pronunciation and comprehension increased exponentially. This was my wow moment, for sure. It was the missing piece. I should have started with the alphabet.

My advice to you, dear learner, is to start with the alphabet. Learn it, pronounce each letter perfectly, learn how to write it, and you will be on the right path to learning your chosen language without hitting a wall or starting over.

Today, I’m studying Japanese. It’s a language I wanted to learn since a teen. I’m using the Busuu app, and practicing how to write Japanese kana characters. I’ve learned several words as well.

News from the Cave

I’ve been busy in my writing cave crafting a romance story about an aspiring writer and a tech entrepreneur. Each day I brainstorm bits of the story and creating my scene notes. I’ll keep you up to date as I write.

See you soon!

July is for NaNoWriMo Camp

Each year, during the month of July, writers and authors work on our individual projects separately. We log our daily word counts in the NaNoWriMo website to track our progress. This year I am working on a new cozy mystery. My goal is to write 25,000 words during the month of July. This will jump start my novel and if I maintain the 806 words a day I’ll be close to 50% complete going into the month of August.

My word count goal is somewhere between 55,000 – 65,000 words for this novel. I’m looking forward to completing my first draft. Here’s a mockup of a fake cover I created – it’s a placeholder until I finalize a permanent cover.

I’ll let you know where I land at the end of the month, maybe sooner if I have some news to share.

See you soon,

Claire💋

In the Beginning …

A book must start somewhere. One brave letter must volunteer to go first, laying itself on the line in an act of faith, from which a word takes heart and follows, drawing a sentence into its wake. From there, a paragraph amasses, and soon a page, and the book is on its way, finding a voice, calling itself into being.

Hello World! Part 2?

Well, where do I start? Hello part2?

I had a website for at least four years until COVID. Don’t say it – I know, I know, I’m tired of everything being blamed on COVID too. But I really had lost my site because I stopped paying attention. I renewed my hosting agreement for one year then lost track of time, and my website. Apparently my email notifications letting me know my site was scheduled for deletion went the same direction as my mind – MIA. It was deleted a few short months ago.

After large blocks of time searching, meditating, and near breakdowns, I remembered my site’s theme. I have it back up – mostly. And I’ll slowly work on my site’s bells and whistles to make it my own again. In the meantime and in between time, I’ll include some content that I hope you will like.

Plug and play websites are a thing, but don’t do what I did and forget your sites theme. The theme equals the site’s name, and without mine, I searched and searched. There are literally thousands of possibilities.

I will spend time each week getting this site up to the same level of love as the last site. I wrote down my theme and will keep that information in a safe place. The key takeaway for today is to write things down and keep them in a safe place.

I’ll see you soon, Claire 💋
